Course Policies

Spring 2020

Absence Policy for All Studio Classes

This policy applies to all studio classes offered in the 舞蹈 Department.

This policy is not meant to be punitive, but rather has been established to protect the student.

舞蹈 classes are cumulative studio/laboratory experiences in which both mental and physical skills are developed. Missed classes and tardiness can lead to injury.

For many studio classes, missed information can never be made up and make-up is therefore, at the discretion of the instructor. If too many classes are missed, it will be impossible to keep up with the rest of the class.

We recommend that you check with your instructor if you have any questions about your attendance record.

If a course meets 3 times a week:
  • 3 absences will not affect your grade
  • 4-7 absences are at the instructor’s discretion
  • 8 absences is a failed grade

If a course meets 2 times a week:

  • 2 absences will not affect your grade
  • 3-5 absences are at the instructor’s discretion
  • 6 absences is a failed grade
If a course meets 1 time a week:
  • 1 absence will not affect your grade
  • 2-3 absences are at the instructor’s discretion
  • 4 absences is a failed grade

Concert Attendance

All students enrolled in a 舞蹈 Department course must attend BOTH of the two dance concerts (see below) presented during the semester. Students are expected to purchase tickets to these concerts. Tickets are available at the Campus Arts Box Office, online 或 calling 608.265.2787. Tickets will be on sale approximately one month before the concert opens.

Students must document their attendance at each concert in accordance with their instructor’s guidelines for each course in the 舞蹈 Department. This requirement entails the expectation that students will be in attendance for the entire concert. Activities such as purchasing a ticket without attending the concert, obtaining a program without attending the concert, attending part of the concert and leaving early, or any other attempts to evade this requirement violate “the core values of academic integrity which include honesty, trust, fairness, respect, and responsibility,” and may result in sanctions for academic misconduct. For more information see UW-麦迪逊's pages on academic integrity 和 consequences of academic misconduct.
